Success StoriesRandy SamarooRandy Samaroo takes his goals very seriously—whether it’s kicking one between the posts, or getting it right in the classroom. His sense of hard work and fair play began in Port of Spain, Trinidad, through his passion for soccer, but his sense of teamwork was formed in an RMU Integrated Engineering Design class. Here, Samaroo and his project partners began work with a manufacturing company to redesign a powered shelf ladder. Because the ladder would be used in warehouses and distribution centers, designs had to comply with OSHA safety standards and other requirements—tough criteria that put their team to the test. Says Samaroo, “One of the biggest things I learned at RMU was how to work in groups. When you work on project like this, you see the best and worst of everyone’s character. Some people really come through in crunch time.” Through the experience, Samaroo also learned a few new things about himself. “I like details, and I’m good at details and follow-through. Those are my strengths.” He also believes the hard work is worth all the effort. “Nothing comes without discipline and hard work. Without them, success just doesn’t feel as good.” |
